Today (July 29), Governor Henry McMaster lifted the last restrictions on business closures under COVID-19. This list of businesses includes, among others, amphitheaters, concert venues, theaters (live and movie), performing arts centers, and festivals.

The Governor has directed that all of these businesses must adhere to AccelerateSC Guidelines, also released today. Top line requirements include:

1) Occupancy
Reduced to 50% OR 250 people, whichever is less.

2) Mask / Social Distancing Requirements
Customers, Staff, and Participants must be masked. Social distancing must be in place. Cleaning practices must also meet guidelines.

3) Alcohol Sales
Must end by 11pm.

McMaster has also made all AccelerateSC Guidelines mandatory for businesses

Arts Centers / Festivals / Events are required to adhere to these guidelines under the most recent executive order.

The SCAA also developed a Reopening Guideline in June that may help arts leaders walk through reopening. These guidelines are referenced in the Festival/Event guidelines above but are not necessarily part of the “required” guidelines issued by the Governor. Click Here >>

While the SCAA was not involved in this decision by the Governor, it is important to note that nothing in the order issued today requires venues to reopen. But if they choose to reopen, they are directed by the Governor to follow the guidelines linked above.

The SCAA believes arts activities should only resume when they can be held safely and in accordance with public health guidance.
