Adopted on September 2, the COVID Public Education Committee, a special review committee of the SC House Public Works and Education Committee, completed its work in making recommendations to the SC Speaker of the House, Jay Lucas (Darlington), on how to strengthen education during the current pandemic.

The Committee adopted their report which includes summaries of testimony, as well as 16 Recommendations. Arts advocates should encouraged that one recommendation concerns the arts and humanities in our schools.

Recommendation #12:

The State Department of Education should continuously encourage districts, regardless of the method used to deliver instruction, to maintain a focus on the arts and humanities.

This report will now be delivered to the Speaker and used to help guide legislative decisions around response to our education system under COVID-19.
