The SC Arts Alliance board of directors has unanimously chosen to award former SC Senator Vincent Sheheen with the coveted Scottie Award.

Named in honor of Scott Shanklin-Peterson – who helped form the SCAA, served as director of the SC Arts Commission and as Deputy Director of the NEA, and who still serves on the board of the SCAA – the Scottie Award is bestowed on individuals who have had a tremendous and long-lasting impact on the arts industry in South Carolina.

As Senator, Vincent Sheheen served as Co-Chair of the Arts Caucus in the Senate, and was Chair of the Senate Finance K-12 Subcommittee, the Committee which oversees arts funding in the state. In these roles, Sheheen helped ensure that the arts continued to grow in South Carolina and, on numerous occasions, was responsible for saving arts funding in the state.

The SC Arts Alliance will present Sen. Vincent Sheheen with the Scottie Award at the end of this year’s Arts Advocacy Week on Friday, February 19 in Camden. The presentation will be live-streamed on the SCAA’s Facebook page.
