With over 40 years of service to our state’s legislature and our state’s citizens, the SC Arts Alliance wishes to extend its thoughts and prayers to Senator Hugh Leatherman’s (R-Florence) family, friends, and constituents. As Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Leatherman remained a stalwart advocate for the arts over the years, helping secure some of the largest increases in arts funding as well as protecting threats against said funding. Senator Leatherman governed with a practical hand and was always listening to the voices of those in his district. Arts advocates may remember scheduling meetings with his office and, if someone from Florence was going to be there – Senator Leatherman wanted to know and try and be there himself to say hello.
Senator Leatherman’s leadership has made South Carolina more vibrant and creative. Thank you, Senator.
