2020 has brought about a lot of “new” things for everyone. One positive though is the start of our Graduate Fellowship! We began this program in January this year, and have continued it for the Fall semester.

Please welcome our Fall Graduate Fellow, Simone Liberty! Simone’s duties this semester will include managing much of our digital content, monitoring and reporting on election news, and helping develop and implement our Fall advocacy strategy.

Here’s a note from Simone as she begins:

Hello, everyone! My name is Simone and I’m very excited to be joining the South Carolina Arts Alliance as their new Fellow. I have been singing, dancing, and acting since the age of six, and as a result, have become a strong advocate for high-quality arts education in schools as well as after school programs.

I grew up in a small town in coastal Connecticut and relocated to Charleston, South Carolina in 2015 to pursue a degree in Arts Management at the College of Charleston. An interest in exploring the cultural and nonprofit sectors in a broader scope led me to begin graduate work at the University of Charleston, SC’s Public Administration program. I’m very grateful to have participated in internships at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, Spoleto Festival, USA, and Front and Center Entertainment. Each of these experiences has allowed me to experience artistic excellence, and be inspired towards my own creative endeavors.

During my time with the South Carolina Arts Alliance, I will continue my role as the Development Assistant at the Charleston Gaillard Center, and as the Graduate Assistant for the Arts and Cultural Management Certificate Program at the College of Charleston under my wonderful mentor, Dr. Karen Chandler. I look forward to serving you through this Fall while we navigate the impending election and share ideas about the arts as a motivator to bring people together in the very dynamic times that this year has brought forth. Thank you, and warm wishes to everyone.
